• Stick to hotels listed in this site or recommended by Amsterdam Tourist Information Office in front of the train station. Politely decline the offers of young men & women in the train stations who'll want to take you to a hotel.

• Be aware that hotels near the Jordaan and Leidseplein offer great deals.

• Take advantage if discounts often offered in winter. Even if the rates haven't been lowered, it's often possible to get a few Euros off the quoted price.

• Note that advance reservations are extremely important in summer, when Amsterdam is the youth vacation capital of Europe.
